For those of you that wonder what mastering is…

To make it simple, your music should sound better… what is better you ask? I will do a few things to sweeten and make your music consistent. What ends up happening is there will be equalization, compression, and limiting applied to the songs you send. The end result should make the songs sound larger than life. The process usually makes the music consistent and at a reasonable loudness. Your mix can only go so loud before it falls apart so if you need it loud then arrange and mix the music so it will allow this. Otherwise I wouldn't worry, there is a special tool that everyone has at home called a volume knob… sorry, had to say it.

For those of you wondering how long it will take…

Under normal circumstance I will take 2-3 days to master. Then, you need to count the shipping and that may take however long depending on your distance from me. You may also choose to pay for faster shipping rates as well and this would be on your dime. I will pay for standard USPS shipping but otherwise anything faster will be at your expense.

For those of you wondering what to send…

Please send a data cdr/dvd of the songs in wav, aif, aiff audio formats. Make sure if possible to send 24 bit files. If sending Pro Tools files then bounce them at Wav, Multi-Mono, 24 bit files. This way they won't go through a conversion on your end when the bouncing is completed. Also, if there is a certain way you want the fades and crossover points to happen then send me an example via an audio cd. I have been using a file sending service called Yousendit.com and you may send each file up to a gig free by simply registering with them. Awesome service!!

What info. shall I send about the songs…

Artist name, project title, individual song order and titles, clear contact info., address to send album to, song spacing ideas (otherwise I will space each song for you), current file format (Wav? Stereo Interleaved? 24bit? Sample Rate?).

For those of you wondering what it will cost…

I charge 45 dollars per hour. I can finish a standard 10+ song album in 4-8 hours. I accept Paypal and prefer to be paid this way if you are not in my local area. If in my local are then cash is king!! Please email lyman@geckorecordingstudio.com for more information regarding Paypal payments. I will need payment before sending out mastered album. Sorry, there are no refunds. I will fix up to 5 song free of charge. But… if you send me new mix versions of an already mastered song then the clock is back on and you will be charged extra.
